Abstract

Corporate sponsorship plays an increasingly influential role in shaping academic research outputs in accounting. While industry-funded research promotes practical relevance, resource access, and innovation, it may also introduce bias, conflict of interest, and reduced academic independence. This paper examines how corporate sponsorship affects research productivity, direction, publication quality, and ethical standards in accounting scholarship. Using a qualitative synthesis of studies, policy reports, and professional guidelines, the research identifies drivers of corporate sponsorship, benefits for stakeholders, risks related to academic bias, and mechanisms to safeguard academic integrity. A governance framework is proposed to ensure transparency, independence, and responsible collaboration between corporations and academic institutions. The study concludes that balanced funding strategies, strong ethical policies, and open-access dissemination can enhance research impact while protecting scholarly credibility.
