Generative AI Policy
The Employee Relations Law Journal (ERLJ) recognizes the growing use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies in scholarly research and academic writing. The journal permits the responsible use of AI-assisted tools provided that their use is transparent, ethical, and does not compromise the integrity, originality, or accountability of the submitted work.
Acceptable Use of AI
Authors may use Generative AI tools to assist with:
-
Language editing and grammar improvement.
-
Improving readability and writing style.
-
Formatting and organization of manuscripts.
-
Translation of text.
-
Coding assistance or data visualization, where appropriate.
Authors remain fully responsible for reviewing, verifying, and correcting any AI-generated content before submission.
Author Responsibility
Authors are solely responsible for the accuracy, originality, validity, and integrity of all content submitted to the journal, regardless of whether AI tools were used during manuscript preparation. AI-generated content must be carefully reviewed to ensure it does not contain factual errors, fabricated information, misleading statements, or inappropriate citations.
Disclosure of AI Use
If Generative AI tools have been used in preparing the manuscript beyond basic language editing or grammar correction, authors should disclose this use in the Acknowledgments section or in a separate Generative AI Statement. The disclosure should identify the AI tool used and briefly describe how it assisted in preparing the manuscript.
AI Cannot Be an Author
Generative AI systems or AI-assisted software cannot be listed as authors or co-authors of a manuscript. Authorship is limited to individuals who meet the journal's authorship criteria and who can take full responsibility for the content of the work.
Research Integrity
The use of AI must not result in:
-
Fabrication or falsification of data.
-
Creation of misleading or inaccurate content.
-
Plagiarism or copyright infringement.
-
Manipulation of images or research findings without proper disclosure.
-
Generation of fake references or citations.
Any misuse of AI that compromises research integrity may lead to rejection, retraction, or other editorial actions.
Editorial Use of AI
Editors and reviewers may use secure AI-assisted tools for limited purposes such as language improvement or administrative support. However, confidential manuscript content will not be uploaded to public AI platforms in a manner that compromises confidentiality or violates the privacy of authors.
Policy Compliance
The journal reserves the right to request additional information regarding the use of Generative AI during manuscript preparation. Failure to disclose significant AI use or misuse of AI technologies may constitute publication misconduct and may result in editorial action in accordance with the journal's publication ethics policies.
The Employee Relations Law Journal (ERLJ) supports the responsible and transparent use of Generative AI while maintaining the highest standards of academic integrity, ethical publishing, and scholarly excellence.
