Abstract

Internships play a significant role in bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world accounting practice. With the accounting profession becoming increasingly technology-driven and globally regulated, higher education institutions must adopt structured internship models that develop technical, analytical, and ethical competencies. This paper examines various internship designs—including cooperative education, capstone-linked internships, virtual internships, rotational corporate placements, and professional body-mandated internships—and evaluates their impacts on skill development. Findings from surveys, curriculum benchmarking, and interviews indicate that structured mentorship, competency-linked assessment, and integration with academic credits produce the strongest learning outcomes. A hybrid internship model is proposed to enhance professional readiness.
